Spiced Apple Galette

A free form pastry filled with cinnamon spiced apples, folded rustic and golden. Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla.

Ingredients

  • 1all butter pie dough, chilled
  • 4apples, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cupbrown sugar
  • 1 tspground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tspground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsplemon juice
  • 2 tbspbutter, cut into small pieces
  • 1egg, beaten, for the crust
  • 1 tbspturbinado sugar

Steps

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 400°F and roll the chilled dough into a rough circle on a lined baking sheet.
  2. 2Toss the apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  3. 3Arrange the apples in the center of the dough, leaving a two inch border, and dot with butter.
  4. 4Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as you go, then brush with egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  5. 5Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the crust is deep golden and the apples are tender.
